Rebirth of Pericles - Reunion of the King and his Daughter

Rebirth of Pericles - Reunion of the King and his Daughter

The painting as a visual narrative re-enacts the emotions associated with the recognition scene in Shakespeare’s Pericles (Act v. sc I). The miraculous reunion of the old king and his daughter Marina is like a rebirth of Pericles, it was a recovery of hope that was despaired of by him. The blue sea mixed into the sky and the granite rocks play a very important part in the seascape as they form the pattern of recovery of hope and faith in the protagonist’s mind. It is quite interesting to note that paintings that have great dramatic and symbolic forces hidden inside them seem to speak in a language of absence rather than presence. The objects (sea, rocks, sky) and their associated colours correspond to the archetypal images that are absent in the painting on the surface. This relationship between the absence and the presence, is also the like the process of recovery of faith and rebirth of the individual as he drowns himself in the vast sea of universal symbolism that are always present in the collective unconscious of a civilization.

WELCOME to the ArtVantage e-Visual Space

The ArtVantage Manifesto

1. We believe that the newest media can support and enhance the oldest, most sophisticated of art forms.

2. We believe that art can only be truly appreciated within a sympathetic, real visual space where you can see and experience the colour, texture and ambition of the artist.

3. We believe, however, we can provide an alternative, virtual platform for the most innovative and thought-provoking art - a valid, if surrogate, experience

4. We believe the web provides an opportunity for an artist to reach out to a far wider audience - to inform and to excite and, in turn, for the audience to grasp and explore the motivation of the artist

5. We believe that all arts are highly interactive and interrelated, there is intertextuality everywhere, there is correspondence in everything, and without this no art lives for a moment to tease us out of thought.

6. We believe that art can go a long way to foster relationships between countries and between cultural communities to create a natural environment for the flourishing of sustainable cultural industries based on the knowledge economy.
