Jimi Hendrix

Born in 1942 and of mixed Cherokee African American parentage, Jimi took up guitar after a stint in the U.S. Army.  Although left handed he often played right handed guitars.  He even played with his teeth!  Regarded by many as the greatest guitar player ever, he is emulated by many such as Phil Lynott and Lenny Kravitz.  His style has influenced most electric guitarists since.  He famously played a version of the American national anthem ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at Woodstock on guitar which was well received by his fans but not the Vietnam War period establishment of the time.  He also died tragically aged 27 in 1970 due to an alleged mix of alcohol and soft drugs.  I liked this image because he doesn’t appear to be aware that a camera is on him.
